What is the
Canadian Dental Care Plan?

The Government of Canada has launched the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) to improve access to affordable dental care for individuals who may otherwise struggle to maintain their oral health.

How does It Work?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) provides dental care coverage to Canadian residents who have an adjusted family net income below $90,000 and who don’t have access to dental insurance.

For eligible Canadian residents, the CDCP will help cover the cost of various oral health care services. It is not a free dental program. There will be a co-pay.

Applications for the CDCP are being accepted in phases. Currently, seniors aged 65 and over, children under 18, and adults with a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate for 2023 can apply. The CDCP reimburses a portion of your dental treatment costs based on your adjusted family net income:
– Income below $70,000: 100% of eligible service costs covered.
– Income between $70,000 and $79,999: 60% of eligible service costs covered; you are responsible for the remaining 40%.
– Income between $80,000 and $89,999: 40% of eligible service costs covered; you are responsible for the remaining 60%.

Yes, if you have dental coverage through a provincial, territorial, or federal government social program, you can still qualify for the CDCP. The CDCP will coordinate with your existing coverage to prevent duplication or gaps. For more details, visit the CDCP qualification page.

After your application is approved, you will receive a welcome package with your benefit start date.

Orthodontic services are not currently covered. However, starting in 2025, the CDCP will add orthodontic services for cases of medical need based on strict criteria, with a maximum spending limit. For updates, please refer to the CDCP coverage page.
